What it is
The Sunpura three-phase smart meter (model SMeter-RS073) is a DIN-rail module for buildings on a three-phase supply. Current transformers (CTs) on the three incoming phases measure what the building is drawing, 500 milliseconds at a time, and the meter reports it to the Sunpura batteries over Wi-Fi.
Why it matters: zero export
With the Sunpura smart meter fitted, the system limits its output to what the home is using, so no energy is exported to the grid. Without the meter the batteries have no way to see the load, so they cannot limit themselves. On a three-phase supply that matters even more, because the load is spread across three phases and the batteries need to see all of them. That is why the meter is part of the South African range rather than an optional extra.
Nothing is fed back into the grid, and we make no feed-in claim. Surplus solar is stored in the batteries for you to use later.
Three-phase systems
A three-phase Sunpura system typically runs one S2400 or S4800 per phase (L1, L2, L3), or up to six units together with the parallel box. This meter sits at the incoming supply and lets the whole system hold its output to the load. Single-phase homes, which is most of South Africa, use the single-phase smart meter (SMeter-RS071) instead. Not sure which supply a site has? Ask us and we will help size it.
For installers
DIN-rail mounting, 96 x 69 x 19 mm, 72 g, one RJ12 CT interface, 75 A maximum measuring current per phase, Wi-Fi on 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. Paired with Sunpura batteries it enables self-consumption optimisation and power control from the Sunpura HOME app. Specifications are from the accessories page of the Sunpura product brochure for South Africa, 202609 V6; there is no separate datasheet for the meter.
