What it is
The Sunpura single-phase smart meter (model SMeter-RS071) is a small DIN-rail module that sits in the distribution board with a current transformer (CT) clipped around the incoming supply. It measures what the whole home is drawing, 500 milliseconds at a time, and reports it to the battery over Wi-Fi.
Why it matters: zero export
With the Sunpura smart meter fitted, the system limits its output to what the home is using, so no energy is exported to the grid. Without the meter the S2400 or S4800 has no way to see the house load, so it cannot limit itself. That is why the meter is part of the South African range rather than an optional extra: it is what makes the zero-export claim true. On a single circuit, a smart plug can do the same job for one appliance; for the whole home, this meter does it.
Nothing is fed back into the grid, and we make no feed-in claim. Surplus solar is stored in the battery for you to use later.
Single-phase or three-phase?
Most South African homes are single-phase, and this is the meter for them. Homes and small businesses on a three-phase supply use the three-phase smart meter (SMeter-RS073), which measures all three phases with one module. Not sure which supply you have? Your installer can tell from the distribution board, or ask us.
For installers
DIN-rail mounting, 96 x 69 x 19 mm, 72 g, one RJ12 CT interface, 75 A maximum measuring current, Wi-Fi on 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. Paired with a Sunpura battery it enables self-consumption optimisation and power control from the Sunpura HOME app. Specifications are from the accessories page of the Sunpura product brochure for South Africa, 202609 V6; there is no separate datasheet for the meter.
